Fear Itself

Post by Alien Redrum » Sun Jan 21, 2018 11:45 pm

Did anyone ever watch this series? I was working from home the other day and was playing it on Shudder, and was really entertained by it. The episodes aren't bad at all, and the cast is off the hook in each one.

I haven't seen it. When it came out Masters of Horror had been on or just ended or something and I read an article about it, thought, hmmm... that sounds like a copy, and forgot about it until this thread.

If I had Shudder I'd check it out :(

You can get shudder for like a month for free or something. If I see it on Hulu or one of the others, I'll let you know.

It's like MoH, but slightly better.

Yeah, I'll never subscribe to Shudder. I don't want to help legitimize the idea that any non-premium cable or non-porn channel should have it's own monthly fee. I mean, my word. If you want to make a basic cable channel and charge a fee, then band together with other small streamers and offer a basic cable package. But don't try to convince me Shudder is worth the monthly fee. Shudder's trying to say they're HBO, and they aren't even SyFy. Don't think you can shit on a taco and tell me it's Tuesday.

I thought Fear Itself was like a follow-on/sequel series to MoH?

It might as well be. IIRC, Mick Garris is behind this too. I bet that guy has some stories.

I can understand that. I don't mind paying like $2.50 a month for it (I got in on a black Friday deal when it was like $28.50 for the year). And, to be honest, they get so many exclusives (Better Watch Out, for example), I'm happy paying the $5 a month for them too. It's worth it to me, but I get why it won't be worth it to everyone.

I will 100% disagree that they aren't even SyFy, though. Their line up is pretty sick. Sure, there are some garbage films in there, but there's also some great stuff both new and old.

Yeah, Mick's involved in this as well.

Say what you want about programming content, it's immaterial. Go look at the free Roku channels and what they have vs. what Shudder has. Extremely similar. Shudder's content is not all that compelling to me. "More shitty horror that's been mass produced for the last 20 years because of the price drop in video making? Sign me up!" Said me never.

You're wrong about the content. Shudder is leagues better than those free shit channels on Roku.

Plus, those channels on Roku, the majority of them have commercials. I happily pay to not have to sit through them.

Yeah, I'm not though. I've been going through their content and seeing exactly what they do have. I'll give you 2 things to your argument, and I believe they are very small things.

1. They have a few Shudder originals, which obviously aren't going to be anywhere else.
2. Commercials, sure. Who cares though?

Going through their content, aside from those few originals, this is mostly stuff that's continually on Netflix, Crackle or Hulu. The older things, yes, are for the most part available on the free Roku channels. I saw poster after poster of movies I've seen advertised elsewhere.

We'll have to agree to disagree, because this is a basic cable channel, worth about $5 for an entire year, and I still wouldn't pay that.

Here's a really good example.

Wolf Creek. It was an okay but forgettable Australian movie. Being Australian, it was decent enough for them to make a sequel. Cool. Good for the Australians, they usually don't have much of a film industry.

Shudder: ZOMG!! !HOTTEST MOVIE EVERE!!!! HERE LETS HAVE AN ENTIRE SERUES FOR IT NOW AND KEEP TRYING TO STRETCH A SIMPLE IDEA OUT AS FAR AS IT WILL GO!!!

-Every horror fan in the world, "Yeah saw that on DVD 7+ years ago. Thanks anyway."

Shudder: HEY BACK IN THE 90'S EVERYONE LOVED ASIAN HORRORO!!! LETS GET AS MUCH AS WE CAN!!!

-Every horror fan in the world, "Yeah saw that on DVD 16+ years ago. Thanks anyway."

Okay, obviously I'm joking in the above couple of posts. But the content isn't there. They do have some decent movies, but I know they're decent because I already saw them. And this screen grab from a review speaks volumes for me. The review by the way, was positive and written by someone with a beard who is named Stephen.

So, I just log in and they want me to watch Carnival of Souls. Because that little piece of public domain film is hard to find... And here they are, front page suggesting it.

Oh, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer. That one's only 30 years old and is a biopic. Sure, we'll call it horror, but it's a biopic. That's their second suggestion.

Into the Wild? A category? Wow, let's check that out. Wah wah waaaaaahh... .bad 70's horror mainly, like the one with Leslie Nielsen wrestling a bear. Sounds awesome. That would be a great movie if I hadn't seen it on TV 40 years ago.

If you like it, awesome. I'm actually happy that you find it to be worthwhile. But don't shit on an egg and tell me its Easter.

That Wolf Creek is the series that came out last year.

The way I look at it is it complements Netflix and Hulu nicely. And I'm in a fortunate position where $2.50 a month won't break me. :yay:

Yeah, that's my point about Wolf Creek. They take a middling property and turn it into a series. yay.

It doesn't matter if the $2.50 will break you or not. That's ridiculous logic. By those standards you'll be spending $2.50 on anything in the world over and over again until just before it breaks you.
 :turd: :turd: :turd:

 I really don't care.
