Region 1 Horror and Cult DVDs coming out on February 23rd, 2010

New on Blu-ray:

The Box ($35.99 MSRP): Push a red button on a little black box, get a million bucks cash. Just like that, all of Norma (Diaz) and Arthur Lewis's (Marsden) financial problems will be over. But there's a catch, according to the strange visitor (Lagella) who placed the box on the couple’s doorstep. Someone, somewhere – someone they don’t know – will die. Cameron Diaz and James Marsden play a couple confronted by agonizing temptation yet unaware they're already part of an orchestrated an – for them and us – mind-blowing chain of events.

The Box is also available on standard DVD.

Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant ($36.98 MSRP): Welcome to the Cirque Du Freak, a traveling sideshow filled with magical creatures, misunderstood freaks, and the mysterious vampire, Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly). Drawn to the dark, unpredictable world of the Cirque, 16-year-old Darren (Chris Massoglia) decides to trade in his ordinary life for a chance to become an immortal vampire. As Darren explores his newfound powers and faces unexpected enemies, he’ll find that his existence as a member of the undead is filled with more challenges, suspense and fun than he ever thought possible.

The Crazies ($29.95 MSRP): Its code name is 'Trixie,' an experimental government germ weapon that leaves its victims either dead or irreversibly insane. When the virus is accidentally unleashed in Evans City, Pennsylvania, the small community becomes a war zone of panicked military, desperate scientists and gentle neighbors turned homicidal maniacs. Now a small group of citizens has fled to the town's outskirts where they must hide from trigger-happy soldiers while battling their own depraved urges. But even if they can escape the madness of this plague, can they survive the unstoppable violence of The Crazies?

Dead Snow ($29.98 MSRP): Get ready for the film that shocked Sundance, rocked Europe and knocked American horror fans out of their seats: When a group of medical students take a sex-and-booze-fueled ski vacation to a remote cabin in the Norwegian Alps, they uncover a dark secret from WWII that resurrects a battalion of uncontrollable, unstoppable and extremely undead Nazis. What follows is a blitzkrieg of bloodshed, body parts and action-packed zombie carnage that The New York Observer hails as relentless thrills, unimaginable horrors and a shock ending guaranteed to make you scream out loud! Writer/director Tommy Wirkola spares no amount of flesh-chomping, intestine-ripping, and chainsaw-slicing to deliver perhaps the finest Nazi Zombie movie of our time and one of the most ferocious, outrageous and over-the-top horror hits of the year!

Dead Snow is also available on standard DVD.

Ichi the Killer ($29.95 MSRP): When a yakuza boss is murdered and his money is stolen, both truth and revenge are brutally sought. Leading the charge is Kakihara (Tadanobu Asano), the bleach-blonde pain junky whose interrogation methods are fetishistically sadistic. As the layers of the sordid tale are peeled back, it appears that someone is trying to turn rival gangs against each other. The centerpiece of this strategy is Ichi the Killer (Nao Omori), a mysterious and completely unhinged master of slaughter. When the final showdown comes, it's a psychologically cataclysmic event. This one-of-a-kind, over-the-top, stomach-churning, live-action cartoon from Takashi Miike (Visitor Q, IZO) remains an extreme and influential modern classic.

Poultrygeist ($29.95 MSRP): When a fast food chicken restaurant is built on the site of an ancient Native American burial ground, the displaced spirits unite with the ghosts of exterminated chickens and transform into Indian chicken zombies seeking revenge! Now, it's up to a dim-witted counter boy, his lesbian ex-girlfriend, and a burqa-wearing fry cook to put an end to the foul-feathered menace once and for all.

Sorority Row ($34.99 MSRP): It’s all fun and games until someone gets stabbed with a tire iron. When a pledge week prank goes terribly wrong and one of their own is killed, the popular, hard-partying sisters of Theta Pi vow never to speak of the tragedy again. But the past comes back to haunt them in the form of a homicidal maniac seeking revenge during the out-of-control graduation festivities.

New on DVD:

The Alcove ($29.95 MSRP): From the infamous Joe D Amato, director of such EuroSleaze classics as Emanuelle In Bangkok and Papaya: Love Goddess Of The Cannibals comes perhaps his most sumptuous skin saga of all! Legendary sex goddess Laura Gemser (Black Emanuelle) stars as an African princess brought home as a slave by a 1940s military officer, only to be sucked into a depraved new world of voyeurism, drugs, pornography, lesbian seduction, unholy nuns and more. Annie Belle (Laure), Al Cliver (Devil Hunter, Zombie, The Beyond) and supermodel-turned-porn-queen Lilli Carati (Escape From Women's Prison) co-star in this stylish-yet-filthy flesh-fest, now presented totally uncut and uncensored for the first time ever in America!

The Alcove trailer was a tough find, so instead here's a Poison classic, Talk Dirty to Me. CC, pick up that guitar and talk to me:

The Caretaker ($24.95 MSRP): A group of teenage boys out to give their girlfriends a good scare on Homecoming night, which also happens to be Halloween, head to an abandoned house in an out-of-the-way fruit orchard where they uncover the story of a real life urban legend.

A good week for Blu-ray, with a variety of releases this week. The $29.95 MSRP for The Alcove is disappointing, though, especially considering it's almost a bare-bones release of a standard DVD.
